Millions of hardworking Americans like David and Jill face being cut off of unemployment insurance in the days and weeks ahead.  This does not need to happen.  This should not happen.  The Senate has already approved, by an overwhelming bipartisan 89-10 margin, a two-month stopgap measure to keep federal unemployment insurance programs in place through February, giving time for Congress to enact a full-year renewal.

The House should simply approve the Senate measure.  Call your U.S. Representative toll-free at 888-245-3381 or use this easy click-to-call page.

In a new analysis titled Holiday Message From House of Representatives to Long-Term Unemployed: 'Tis Better to Abandon You Than to Compromise' the National Employment Law Project (NELP) details the destructive impact a lapse in federal benefits would have, including state-by-state projections on the numbers of workers who will be cut off in the first two months of 2012.  Nationally, NELP estimates more than 2.8 million will be cut off of unemployment insurance during January and February.
